About the project

Mansion on Bolshaya Bronnaya is a building recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The concept is therefore based on the careful restoration of the key elements of its historic façade, complemented by new details linked to the history of Bronnaya Street. The project is grounded in respect for the building’s established architectural identity and in the intention to continue it without disrupting the historical logic of the place.

01

The idea

The main idea of the project is to emphasize historical continuity. The new façade elements refer to the history of Bronnaya Sloboda, a settlement that once stood near what are now Bolshaya Bronnaya and Malaya Bronnaya streets. The sloboda was founded in the 16th century, and its residents were primarily craftsmen producing protective armor and military equipment. It is this historical layer that the project engages with. To make this connection more explicit, the architecture introduces decorative elements in the form of stylized armor plates. They appear in metal railings as well as in ceramic elements finished with metallic glaze. These details refer both to the history of the place and to the architecture of 16th-17th century Moscow, when tiled decorative elements were widely used in the homes of the Moscow nobility.

02

Architecture

The architectural concept combines the restoration of the historic façade with the introduction of new details connected to the history of the street. At the same time, the spatial structure emphasizes continuity with classical architecture. The entrance is positioned on the building’s central axis, reinforcing the sense of symmetry and making the composition feel more coherent. The new façade elements do not compete with the historic foundation but extend it. Metal railings and ceramic details finished with metallic glaze become part of the project’s architectural language and serve as a subtle reference to the past of this place.

03

Landscape

The landscape design is tied to the building’s overall spatial structure. The central entrance, positioned on the building’s main axis, connects to the proposed landscaping and leads to a defined private courtyard within the inner block. In this way, the landscaping becomes a continuation of the architectural composition and reinforces its axial structure.
